It is very important that we ask for forgiveness, not only from the person we have offended, but also from God, for hurting one of His children.
The good news is that God is quick to forgive us.
The bad news is that God does not erase the consequences.
We will not address the consequences, specifically, because there are too many variables that could impact how they manifest themselves.
However, let us address appropriate responses to the error of our ways.
- We must greet and acknowledge the person, when we find ourselves in their presence. But we must prepare ourselves for the fact that they may not respond, in kind.
- We must understand that the price of an offense may result in the loss of that friendship.
- We must recognize that we cannot set the expectations or timetable for the manner in which the other person chooses to deal with their pain; especially if we didn't take the time to consider how our words or actions might impact the person, before we spoke or acted.
- We must remember that even if we weren't the cause of the offense, that we must see people through the eyes of mercy; because, inevitably, life will, someday, turn the tables. When this happens, we will certainly want mercy to displayed by others. The last thing we would want is judgment. This will help us to maintain a healthy perspective when others change the manner in which they respond to our attempts to engage them.
My wife and I have already prayed.
This post, however, is about a personal test that I am walking out, right now. My hope is that this post helps us all, and that I can pass my test.
To the readers, I am hopeful that this nugget will help you through the weekend.
We are not perfect and we know this.
We just have to keep in mind that those around us are under construction too.
We are all in the recovery room; some of us may not get out, but all of us will be shown the exit door.
It is marked, "Forgiveness"
God bless you, party people.
